Sub prime mortgage mess

January 8th, 2008 by admin

Since a couple years ago the housing and real-estate market has been at an all time high. Until recently the prices of homes have been dramatically dropping and inflation has been rising. The problem with this is that for the people who borrowed money from the bank two years ago have to pay their monthly charges based on the price they payed not the value of it today. So now with their house not worth as much they are stuck with houses paying huge mortgages on them. luckily they are able to just give the house to the bank and then not owe more on the mortgage.

But for all good there is bad, the banks are now stuck with the houses that aren’t worth the money they lent the original buyer. so banks are ridding themselves of the houses and property for thousands less of what is normal. For example in Florida if you go to the bank with 20 million dollars they will give you 60 million in property. this in turn reduces the housing market as a whole and everyone is screwed.

Benazir Bhutto assassinated

January 8th, 2008 by admin

As we all know Pakistan’s former prime minister Benazir Bhutto was killed.  But when looking on the internet to find out what happened there were so many stories about other things it was hard to find the story. So on thursday, December 27, 2007 former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto was assassinated after a rally speech in Liaquat Bagh in Rawalpindi, Pakistan.  She was shot in the neck a couple times and then a bomb went off next to her hurling her from the car.  she was brought to the hospital where she was pronounced dead.

My thought is that it will likely raise serious concerns for the Bush administration who had been working since last summer to encourage Benazir Bhutto to end her exile, return to Pakistan, and try to encourage a political compromise with President Musharaff. With Bhutto now dead, and Musharaff having surprise the US and State Department officials with his recent state of emergency, it feels the US has few reliable partners left in the Middle East.  Unfortunately after Bhutto’s death the hope for a democratic Pakistan and the hope for the safety of its people has been lost. Also any hope of having free and fair parliamentary elections, as scheduled for next month, appear to have been crushed.

A $100 laptop!

December 10th, 2007 by admin

Don’t you wish there was a simple, trouble-free, and cheap laptop.  There is now with OLPC’s 100 dollar laptop. unfortunately  you cant have one  due to  the fact its for  third world countries. (sorry)

The 100 dollar laptop features a 7.5-inch LCD with an impressive resolution of 1200×900 (which is more than a MacBook) and a small, rubberized keyboard. It’s made by the One Laptop per Child (OLPC), and it was created by MIT faculty members. Soon it will be distributed to 3rd world countries all over the world.

The bright green color and “bunny ears” draw attention to the OLPC laptop. I was told it was made bright green not only because it is intended for children, but also because it was less likely to be purchased, and sold on the black market with such a vivid color. The “bunny ears” are actually disguised 802.11b/g Wi-Fi antennas and do double-duty by covering up miscellaneous ports when closed. It weighs 3.3 pounds and is about 2/3 the size of the Macbook.

The laptop was created with power consumption in mind and as such, it nominally consumes only 2 watts making it an ideal candidate for human-powered recharging. It even hold’s a hand crank charging mechanism and a ripcord-type charging mechanism, similar to how you start a lawn mower.

As for software, the $100 laptop runs a custom version of Red Hat’s Fedora Core 6 distribution of Linux. The desktop is rather simplistic with just a few icons but you can bring up a terminal if necessary. It comes preloaded with several basic applications such as a Mozilla-based web browser (not exactly Firefox), and a kids application that lets them make and record sounds and sound effects. The laptop utilizes a 366MHz AMD Geode processor that only consumes 1 watt. There is no hard drive; rather 512MB of flash RAM which is separate from the computer’s 128MB of DDR266 system RAM.

Unfortunately it’s not all going to plan. In 2006 the company estimated that by now over 100 million would be produced and given out. Their new predictions, only 250,000 to 300,000 are due to be made by the end of this year. Some countries are not participating because it doesn’t have windows installed such as Russia. Although they came out at a bad start I believe these computers will be a great success in Asian and African countries. Cause think about who doesn’t want a simple, trouble-free, and cheap laptop. I know I would want one! olpc-flip-screen.jpg

Sprite with Ice!

November 5th, 2007 by admin

Recently coke introduced its newest idea for their product Sprite that when opened, ice will be created inside the bottle from chemical reactions. I feel this is a great idea since I can’t drink any type of soft drink without ice in it. The only downside about drinking soda on ice is that it dilutes the soda. This is all fixed with their idea. Since the ice is created with the soda it won’t dilute it and have a super chilled temperature to it also.

The only downside with this is that it can only be sold with special vending machines and won’t work if left in room temperature. They are advertising there new product as sprite Super Chilled and it could be launched in the UK as early as next year. Coke hopes the drink will tap into the trend for alcoholic drinks, particularly beers.

sprite ice

I personally think this is going to be the next coke zero and increase their annual earnings at least another 20%. It’s a great idea and a great invention on their part. I know I’ll be buying these special sprites just to see the ice form!

Star Wars:The Force Unleashed

November 4th, 2007 by admin

If you’re like me, you can’t wait for anything star wars to be released. Now with no more movies coming out video games are the next best things. Fighting with light sabers is something we’ve all fantasized about when we first heard of the Wii-mote interface, but can it really be true? Can it really work as well as one would hope? My opinion is for it to work right; the game would have to match your Wii-mote moves exactly. Also complete with sound effects, and your hits on your saber should trigger a rumble in the Wii-mote or something. And though there is added light saber content for the Wii, it shouldn’t feel tacked on. The combat should be as realistic as possible and you should have to get good at saber fighting to progress. Not have some other way to get through the same obstacles.

If it’s done well, this could sell Wii’s like nothing before. Imagine crossing sabers with your deepest foes, say, Darth Vader or Darth Maul, or if you’re of the dark-side, Obi-Wan Kenobi or Luke? I’m ready for this to turn out lame or even not near as involving as I’d like, but the potential is extremely exciting. Kind of wish they’d gone with HD output, since this fairly cries out for serious resolution on as big a screen as you can find!

That’s all my deep thought into this but now into the known details about the game. According to www.lucasarts.com the game comes out with two completely new and innovative technologies, Digital Molecular Matter by Pixelux Entertainment and euphoria by NaturalMotion Ltd. These groundbreaking technologies combine with Havoc physics to create true next-gen game play and the Force like it’s never been seen or experienced before. The DMM lets the objects around you act as they would in real life. When you throw a baseball at glass it breaks different every time. With DMM wood breaks like wood, glass breaks like glass, and metal dents like metal. Not only does it act in natural characteristics of the object but it also depends on the force and direction it is being asserted on. This truly is groundbreaking technology to make it look like real life. Also the game comes out with Euphoria which allows the characters to act as real humans with a brain and nervous system. What do I mean by this? I’m talking about when you throw a person off a roof of a building, a human would try to act on instinct and grab on to something. Bots now act with human like AI movements and reactions unique to each character.

In Star Wars: The Force Unleashed players will play as Darth Vader’s “Secret Apprentice”. The expansive story, created under direction from George Lucas, is set during the largely unexplored era between Star Wars: Episode III Revenge of the Sith and Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope. In it, players will assist the iconic villain in his quest to rid the universe of Jedi - and face decisions that could change the course of their destiny. According to www.lucasarts.com. Check out the website for video trailers and more about the physics and AI inside the game!

Keyport Slide!

November 4th, 2007 by admin

The new Keyport Slide has a very nice futuristic look to it as well as a nice practical idea behind it. Are you tired of shuffling through all your keys to find the right one for the right match? “Now, imagine if you had one universal key fob that could integrate all the items below along with your metal keys in an exquisitely designed shell the size of a pack of gum.” This is what Keyport will do for you. Converting to Keyport is as simple as having each of your keys copied to a compatible blank and attached to the internal slider apparatus. By simply pressing the buttons on either side of the shell you can slide each of your keys as they click into place for use.

This is an item everyone should have. It takes up little space and is easy to use. While using one of the keys all your other annoying keys are hidden back in the storage container. No more jingling and no more hours of trying to find the right key. Their headline summarizes it all with…. “THE CONVENTIONAL KEY HAS FINALLY BEEN UPDATED FOR THE 21ST CENTURY.”. Patience is a virtue, as has been the relatively short wait for the Keyport Slider and the inventor’s uncanny and demanding attention to detail. This innovative and much-desired product makes so much sense and will grab millions of consumers, worldwide, by their eyeballs … “instantaneous acceptance at first sight.” Next, I suspect, comes the highly anticipated product marketing plans that the Keyport creator has just as cleverly crafted. Keeping the supply just below the demand will cause a public shout. So don’t wait! Their will be a limited supply at first. Make sure your one of the first to use this revolutionary idea and reserve your keyport today at keyportusa.com!
